Environment, Technology and Legacy: Frames and Reframes<\/strong><\/em>
Presented by David Bella, Professor Emeritus<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing upon experience since the 1960s, Dave Bella will describe how environmental problems have been framed and reframed over decades. The result: We are on course to leave a tragic legacy for the future while everyone blames everyone else. As citizens, particularly elders (Dave is 87), we can reframe problems in more hopeful ways. This requires recognizing limitations of technology, problems in higher education, and the difference between hope and optimism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Truck Beds, Tortoises, and a Decade in the Mojave<\/strong>
<\/em>Presented by Dr. Bryan Reiley, Environmental researcher<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a decade, Dr. Bryan Reiley worked with desert tortoises across some of the harshest, most beautiful country in the Southwest, often calling the back of his truck home. From range-wide desert tortoise surveys and military base expansion projects to solar fields, pipelines, and Sonoran Desert Tortoise study plots, he\u2019ll share field stories, hard lessons and what today\u2019s tortoise populations reveal about survival in a changing desert environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forests Working for Wildlife<\/strong>
<\/em>Presented by Fran Cafferata, Certified Wildlife Biologist<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I will showcase the real contribution of privately managed forests for wildlife. Forests working for wildlife showcase real examples of habitat stewardship for healthy forests and healthy wildlife populations. I will highlight real examples of habitat stewardship, key research findings, and practical actions that help keep common species common. We will explore how working forests of all ages contribute to a healthy mosaic of wildlife habitat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
